Choosing a web partner: questions that separate signal from sales talk.

A checklist for procurement teams and founders — discovery depth, ownership of code, and how success is measured after launch.

·9 min read

A strong partner shows how they think, not just what they have shipped. Use these questions in RFPs and discovery calls to compare apples to apples.

Discovery and delivery

  • How do you validate requirements before design begins?
  • Who owns product decisions when stakeholders disagree?
  • What does a typical weekly rhythm look like during build?
  • How do you handle scope change — process, not just hourly rates?

Ownership and risk

  • Who owns source code, domains, and third-party accounts on day one?
  • What is included in handover documentation?
  • How do you approach accessibility, performance, and security testing?
  • What does support look like 30, 90, and 180 days after launch?

Listen for specificity. Vague answers about “best practices” without examples usually mean you will be the first project where they figure it out.
